Planning Commission guides the coordinated development of Norris, ensuring growth aligns with the city’s needs and promotes public welfare. The commission’s duties include planning for land use and future development. Two volunteer positions are available, with terms ending in January 2028. Board of Zoning Appeals is responsible for reviewing and deciding appeals related to zoning ordinance enforcement, including challenges to decisions made by the building inspector or other officials. The board also hears applications for special exceptions, requests for zoning map interpretations, and variances from zoning ordinance requirements. One volunteer position is available, with a term ending in January 2030. Tree Commission develops and oversees the city’s tree planting, maintenance, and removal programs across municipal lands, parks, and public rights-of-way. Four volunteer positions are available with terms ending in January 2026 and January 2028. Community Development Board serves as a catalyst for managing and enhancing Norris' natural, historic, and economic resources while preserving its heritage. The board facilitates public discussion, supports city initiatives, strengthens connections with neighboring governments and businesses, and promotes the city's unique landscape and history. One volunteer position is available with a term ending in January 2028. Little Theatre Board is responsible for establishing and conducting a community theatre program in Norris, coordinating performances, and hiring directors, stage managers, and designers. Four volunteer positions are available with terms ending in January 2027 and January 2028. Watershed Board oversees the management and protection of the city’s watershed, focusing on recreation, protection, and timber production. The board also develops an annual work plan and report for the City Council. One volunteer position is available, with a term ending in January 2028. Animal Shelter Commission operates and maintains temporary holding facilities for dogs and cats in Norris, ensuring their well-being through proper care and adoption services. Four volunteer positions are available, with terms ending in January 2026, January 2027, and January 2028. Recreation Commission provides and supervises recreational programs for Norris residents, utilizing parks and recreational facilities. Two volunteer positions are available, with terms ending in January 2028. Archives Committee oversees the Norris Archives, ensuring the proper care and preservation of historical materials related to the city.
