Is advertising for the following position: Utility Worker/Operator I or II

Salary: Negotiable, depending upon qualifications/certifications. Excellent benefit package.

Primary Functions: The Utility Worker/Operator I or II will be responsible for routine operation and
maintenance of Norris water and wastewater facilities including water purification, wastewater
treatment, compliance sampling, ability to make necessary adjustments when needed based on test
results, ability to calculate figures and sample testing, and repairs in the distribution and collection
system. The position ultimately requires certification in designated field(s). If the applicant does not
currently maintain state operator’s certification(s), then the position requires that the new employee
obtain the certification, as designated by the Norris Water Commission (NWC), within 12-18 months of
employment.

(January 9, 2025)
The City of Norris is under a Winter Storm Warning starting Friday at 10 am, January 10, 2025. According to the U.S. National Weather Service, significant snow accumulation and a wintry mix are expected.
 
Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing over the next week, leading to the refreezing of melted precipitation, and creating hazardous driving conditions. Travel is strongly discouraged from Friday through Monday afternoon.
 
The City of Norris urges residents, businesses, and visitors to prepare for the storm. https://www.cdc.gov/winter-weather/safety/stay-safe-during-after-a-winter-storm-safety.html is a great resource to prepare and remain safe during a winter event.  Here are some key tips to stay safe and winter-ready:

1. Before the Storm: Prepare your home, car, and workspaces with emergency supplies.
2. During the Storm: Avoid travel and listen to updates.
3. Keep a water supply.
   • Extreme cold can cause water pipes in your home to freeze and sometimes rupture or break. When you are expecting very cold or freezing temperatures:
   • Leave all water taps slightly open so they drip continuously.
   • Keep the temperature inside your home warm.
   • Allow heated air to reach pipes. For example, open cabinet doors beneath the kitchen and bathroom sinks.
   • If your pipes do freeze, do not thaw them with a torch. Thaw the pipes slowly with warm air from an electric hair dryer.
   • If you cannot thaw your pipes, or the pipes have broken open, use bottled water, or get water from a neighbor's home.

1. After the Storm: Stay off icy roads and use heating devices safely.
