Authorized by TN Code Annotated section 13-4-101 and created by Norris Municipal Code section 14-101, The Planning Commission is responsible for guiding and promoting the coordinated and harmonious development of the City of Norris. The commission works to ensure that growth and development align with the city’s needs while promoting public health, safety, welfare, and efficiency. It plays a vital role in shaping the future of the city by considering and making recommendations on land use, zoning, and other key planning issues that support sustainable and vibrant growth.
The Planning Commission meets on the First Monday of each Month at 6:00 p.m. at the Norris Community Building, 20 Chestnut Drive. Those wishing to have a site plan reviewed and approved by the Planning Commission as required in the Norris Municipal Zoning Ordinance shall submit their plans to the City Office no later than 7 days prior to the meeting.
In order to facilitate their responsibilities, the Planning Commission manages multiple important documents. The Land Use and Transportation Policy Plan lays out the city's vision for future development of land and transportation facilities. The current plan was developed in 2014 to serve as a ten-year horizon. The Planning Commission is currently in the process of updating the plan. Norris Municipal Code section 14-102 specifies that the Planning Commission shall have seven members; one shall be the Mayor, one shall be a Councilmember selected by the City Council, and the remaining five shall be citizens of Norris. The Current Members of the Planning Commission are as follows:
