NOTICE ON TRASH CONTAINERS
During the last week of July (July 28 - August 1) , Waste Connections expects to begin the delivery of their new standardized solid waste containers for residential customers. We expect residents to begin fully utilizing their new containers no later than the August 12th, 2025, pickup. If you wish to have Waste Connections pick up your old container(s), please place them next to your new container on August 19, 2025. In conjunction with this implementation, the City’s parking lot next to the tennis courts on Chestnut Drive will be closed on July 28 and remain closed for the duration of the container rollout. Thank you for your time and understanding. The City of Norris recognizes that some residents are physically unable to bring their garbage and recycling carts to the street curb or alley for weekly collection. Therefore, the City offers free "backdoor"1 garbage services for those who qualify.
If you are in need of "Backdoor" trash pick-up, download this application below and turn it in to the Norris City office in person or by emailing it to [email protected]. APPLICATION FOR RESIDENTIAL 'BACKDOOR' GARBAGE SERVICE |
Message from Waste Connections
Waste Connections has asked us to relay some information to our residents that may help with making sure your trash is picked up. Below are some Q&A topics. Common Questions: When do they pick up trash? Our scheduled pick-up day in Norris is Tuesday. We DO NOT have a set start time, just this set day. Did they miss me? We try to get to Norris as early as possible in the morning, however, if there is an issue with a truck, or we are short staffed, it may cause us to get a late start. Please don’t assume you have been missed until later in the day. If your trash or recycle is still there by 3:30 p.m., then there is a good chance you have been missed. Please allow us the entire day to retrieve your trash and recycle. What if they missed my house? If your trash is still there by the end of the day, call the city office at 865-494-7645 to let them know. They will inform Waste Connections and we will come back the next day to pick up the ones we missed. You may also visit the Waste Connections website to expedite this information. Is there a reason they keep skipping my house? If your trash is routinely missed, it is most likely due to where it is kept. We currently only have large trucks which means if your driveway is steep, narrow, or tree/shrub covered we cannot safely get the truck in and out to pick up trash. If your driveway is exceedingly long (50 + yards) it is very difficult and time consuming for our crew to walk the distance of the driveway to retrieve trash, and to bring it the distance back to the truck. Depending on the amount of trash, it could require several trips back and forth; causing more time delays. Other reasons that may cause us to skip your trash are un-bagged trash, loose dogs, vehicles blocking the driveway and trash that is not easily visible or accessible. How can you help?
While we understand there will be exceptions, Waste Connections is working to better meet your expectations. We appreciate your understanding and your patience. |
