Job Opening: Utility Worker/Operator I or II Location: Norris, Tennessee Employment Type: Full-Time Salary: Negotiable, based on qualifications and certifications Benefits: Health insurance, TCRS retirement, 401K/457 with city match up to 3%, bonus certifications available Position Overview The Norris Water Commission (NWC) is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Utility Worker/Operator I or II to support the operation and maintenance of our water and wastewater systems. This role is essential to ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient utility services for the City of Norris. Primary Responsibilities
Operate and maintain water purification and wastewater treatment facilities
Conduct compliance sampling and testing
Make system adjustments based on test results
Perform calculations and repairs within distribution and collection systems
Secondary Responsibilities
Assist with repairs to water/wastewater systems, pump stations, water towers, fire hydrants, and meters
Operate excavation equipment and perform skilled trades work
Install and replace water meters
Maintain grounds and facilities (mowing, weed eating, painting, etc.)
Ensure adherence to Federal and State Clean Water Regulations
Physical & Scheduling Requirements
Must have sufficient strength and stamina for physically demanding tasks
Ability to lift heavy objects and use hand tools and equipment
Must pass a pre-employment exam, fit test, and drug screening
Required to read meters (walking involved) and work in inclement weather
Participate in weekend/holiday rotations, weekly on-call shifts, and emergency call-outs
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (vocational concentration preferred)
Must be at least 18 years of age
Willingness to obtain state operator certification(s) within 12–18 months of employment, as designated by NWC
Ability to learn water/wastewater operations within a reasonable timeframe
